March contest 1st Whitewell Vale, 2nd Ramsbottom.
Contest won for third year in succession by Helmshore who therefore won trophy outright. Trophy was presented to Oliver Porritt owner of Sunnybank Mill, Helmshore for assisting the band financially. Was placed in the mill for safekeeping, but then went missing when mill was demolished in 1977. Was recovered in a toolbox in Helmshore in 2002 in two pieces. Was repaired and returned to its rightful home at Haslingden and Helmshore band. (dutchy)
