Suo Gân 2015
Here is a very simple setting of a beautiful lullaby, which should be ideal for a predominantly learner-based band, or simply a small ensemble. Although an over-analysis of the score may not be necessary, it is worth bearing in mind that the simplicity of this music can expose even the slightest intonation problem, particularly in the chosen key.
Ensure a warm sound throughout and good phrasing from the whole ensemble. Good balance is required at section B so that the melody is clearly heard from the 2nd Cornets and lst Horns. Although marked at forte, take care not to spoil the mood of the music by overblowing at bar 37. The conductor may wish to consider sensitively bringing the tempo back from bar 42 to the end in order to bring the piece to its peaceful conclusion.
'Suo Gân' is a traditional Welsh lullaby that dates back to around 1800. 'Suo Gân' simply means 'lullaby'.
